An idea for a business...now what?

OK, simple enough question...

I have some great ideas for businesses which I honestly think would work. My problem is, when I have the idea, I write down all the details - what the business is about, who my target audience is, why I have created it (the purpose) etc...

I just don't really know where to go next with my ideas...

Any advice on where to go next is welcome...

The business I'm looking at is an e commerce website which empowers the buyer rather than the seller and allows them to get the best price possible without the legwork...

You should start small, but aim BIG. Thats what Bill Gates did and look at him now. Being one of the largest millionaires in the world even after retiring and donating to poor countries. Start with a small capital money, get it from friends or family. Make a small office / shop / whatever. It would help if you posted at least something about the business you're aiming for. Next up, make a Facebook page and start advertising as much as your capital money allows you. Facebook is good for attarcting attantion. Slowly expand your business. Do something special, with little or no competition on the market.

Take your business plan along to the bank and ask for a loan. You are unlikely (very!) to get one, but what you will usually get is some good advice for novice would-be businessmen. Having the everyday pitfalls pointed out before you fall into them could save you some grief in the longer term and may give you some pointers on what to work on/where to go next with your ideas.

Also worth reading a few of the many excellent business books out there for would-be businesses...the 'Dummies' series has various relevant titles (look on Amazon or check your local library).
