Friends birthday wishes only on Facebook?

So i soon had birthday and one of my closest friends wished me birthday only on Facebook. One of them was a really nice wish and teh other was teh first to congratulate me but only on a private message. I appreciate this, but when I am so close to somebody I would as well call them, I've always done this... What do you think about this?
Also, they've been great friends all in all but just this.. i don't know what to think about it

This situation is the result of people relying so much on
facebook that they use it instead of remembering good
manners and common sense. The best you can do for
now is to appreciate having your birthday acknowledged.
