Facebook statuses privacy?

Can people see my status on facebook if they aren't my friend?
If they can, is there a way to make it so only friends can see my statuses?

--On Facebook click "Account in the upper right hand corner
--In the drop-down menu, click "Privacy Settings"
--Then click "Personal Information and Posts"
--Look for "Posts by Me" (Around the middle of the page)
--On the right, click the drop-down menu and set it to "Only Friends"
