How come my @yahoo.com and yahoo.co.uk accounts are connected with each other?

How come my @yahoo.com and yahoo.co.uk accounts are connected with each other?
I've registered Instagram accidentally typing "@yahoo.com" instead of "@yahoo.co.uk" - the uk one is the only yahoo account I have.

However, I have succeeded in registering and now I have forgotten my Instagram password. Instagram wants to send me a recovery email but I didn't receive any emails on my co.uk account and that's when I realised I typed the wrong email.

Now, I'm trying to access the "yahoo.com" account which of course, won't work, because it didn't exist.
But recently I have reset my "yahoo.co.uk" account password and this weird thing happened.
After I have reset my co.uk account, I went to try and reset the "non-existent" account (yahoo.com), I typed the newly reset password from my uk account into the "new password " bar. A message appeared and said I could not use the same password as I have used before.
!!!
So does this mean these two accounts are connected somehow?
And then I went to http://www.yahoo.com to try and login to the "yahoo.com" account with the new password and then it logged in!
But somehow, when I went into Mail, the account was the .co.uk one!
I've read other articles about this and Yahoo claims that an @yahoo.com and @yahoo.co.uk account are completely separate accounts.
But how come the password changes and logins are connected somehow?
For a resolution, can I either delete my @yahoo.com account or can I find another way to get my Instagram password back?
Thanks a bunch!

You may want to contact Yahoo Customer Care for clarification on what you are seeing. Here's how.

Yahoo UK contact info - http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/info/co...ntact.html

The email addresses alpha@yahoo.com and alpha@yahoo.co.uk are different email addresses. However you can go to Yahoo Canada or Yahoo Australia or Yahoo USA and log in using your Yahoo.co.uk account username and password but just because you logged into Yahoo USA that doesn't mean you have a Yahoo.com Email address. You would only have a Yahoo.com email address if you went to the Yahoo USA website and actually created one.

Yahoo keeps a record of the passwords you've used so when you tried to reset your Yahoo password to the same thing it's set to now you will see this message.

If you want to see if the Yahoo.com address you made up exists I'd go to Yahoo USA website and try to create a new account using this email address. If you can create it then you can have Instagram send the password reset email and you can recover your account. If the account isn't available then you have lost your Instagram account and should create a new one.

Unfortunately, if you've forgotten your Instagram password and lost access to your email account, we're unable to release the Instagram account to you. This includes accounts registered with mistyped email addresses. We understand this can be frustrating, but this policy is meant to make sure Instagram accounts don't fall into the wrong hands. We hope that you are able to recall your password in the future so that you can log in and correct the email address.

I recommend using a password manager like Keepass or LastPass to create and store strong unique passwords for the sites you visit. You can also save notes like your secret questions and answers to the password entries. LastPass can automatically log you in to any web site you have stored in its database.
