Friend showing up as "Facebook user"?

A friend of mine keeps showing up as "Facebook user" on chat instead of his name. I can't go to his profile at all (his name isn't even a blue link, it's just normal white font) and all of the messages he's sent me in the past have been blocked out, saying "This message is no longer available because it was identified as abusive or marked as spam".

What gives? Did he delete his account? Was he banned? I'm not too concerned since he wasn't a close friend, but I'm curious.

Well I deactivated my Facebook at the beginning of the year and at first it would only show my name but you wouldn't be able to click on it. and then when I signed up my account for deletion, after two weeks when it was deleted friend of mine told me that now instead of my name she sees Facebook User.

I don't know if this person deleted their account or maybe when you just deactivated it states Facebook User instead of the name of the person.

And also if that person were to block you wouldn't be able to see anything at all, not even "Facebook User".
