Should I be as worried about Facebook as I am?

I want to start a Facebook account, but I heard that site has an awful lot of privacy and security issues. That worries me. Is my worried state justified? In other words, is Facebook safe?

Rumors like that start because the default security options are well..pretty open. You can go in and change the security settings to suit your needs.

There are a lot of privacy settings on facebook, so I wouldn't worry. Just make sure you turn them on! Default is set to let everything hang out
