How do you control what you want to see on facebook?

I recently figured out how to block someone's statuses from showing up in newsfeed, but how do you control what kinds of things you want to see on facebook. For example, if one of my friends writes on the wall of another one of my friends, then i think that should show up in my newsfeed, but if my friend comments on the status of someone who is not my friend, I do not want it to show up in my newsfeed. I also get a lot of newsfeed about friends liking or commenting on photos of some page that i am not even a fan of. Do you know how i can keep that from showing up in newsfeed?
