How can I raise money for a (sort of) missions trip?
I put a tl;dr at the bottom, but these paragraphs have a ton more details.

I say sort of because I would not be going with a youth group or with my parents. I'm 16 and a junior in high school. It is a 10 day trip to Ukraine with a group called Radooga which is led by my mom's friend. He is looking for 10 high school students to go in July. It is a Christian group, but the main focus of the trip is to help at camps where orphans have to go in the summer (they can't stay at the orphanages and are kicked out of orphanages at 16). These camps have no recreation or programming and this group goes to these camps and organizes sports, drama, music, crafts, etc. I really want to do this for three reasons. First, it sounds like an amazing opportunity to both help these kids, who are stereotypically thought of (at least within Ukraine) as having something wrong with them, and to serve God without felling like I'm being pushy (like the street evangelism thing in most youth mission trips... if I wasn't Christian and someone came up to me on the street and told me "Jesus loves you" I would probably tell them to leave me alone, in... different words. That's just me though.... no offense intended if that reached you or if you've reached others through that). Second, my sister was adopted from Ukraine when she was 3. If she hadn't been adopted, she could be one of these kids. Third, I lived in Kyiv, Ukraine, with my family in 2007 from January to June when I was in fourth grade. I really, really want to go back to this country. Yes, I am aware of what is going on there and so are my parents (This is off topic but search it if you don't know. To find anything about it through U.S. news sources I had to dig through Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus or search specifically for it. Kyivpost is a great source and so is Euromaidanpr on facebook. Slava Ukraina!). They're still okay with me going.

The problem is, I need to raise $1,099 plus airfare. This would be a lot easier if I was at home this year, but I'm doing an awesome boarding school (sort of... I'm the only boarding student) program in Colorado this year for school so my parents aren't right there to help me organize a yard sale or anything like that (plus most of my stuff I could sell is in CA). Before you say "Well if you can afford that program..." we can only afford it with financial aid and help from grandparents and it means we can't really afford the thing this summer. Any ideas? I've already thought of sending letters and making a GoFundMe or similar page, but most people I know really don't have any extra money to give. I've been trying to save money from babysitting and things like that. I would have saved Christmas money but found out about this after I already bought climbing shoes (which I haven't been able to use yet and could likely sell for a profit if I have to as they were on sale for almost $50 off) and used the rest on stuff I needed like a new toothbrush and shampoo and stuff like that. What else can I do? Sorry this was so long!

tl;dr I'm 16. I want to raise money for this www. radooga. com/ missiontrips/ ROC/. I'm not at home this year. Any ideas other than sending letters, making a GoFundMe or similar page, or doing things like babysitting? I'm going to try those, but most people I know don't have any extra money to give.
I just realized the way I phrased one of my reasons (I really want to go back) sounds pretty selfish. The reason I really want to go back is not the experience or a personal wish to visit again. I really want to go back because going in fourth grade made me realize how privileged I am compared to most of the world -- even though my family isn't rich by U.S. standards. I really want to go back because I saw how kids in most orphanages there don't always have enough food and have to share everything, including the attention from the caregivers when we visited the orphanage where my sister was adopted from to bring toys, clothes, etc. I have been drawn to helping in Ukraine since even before I went there, and that is why I rally, really want to go back. And yes, I know that there are plenty of places I could help in the U.S. I try to when I see an opportunity, and going to help in Ukraine for 10 days does not mean I will stop caring about problems in the U.S.

Hey! You answered my question:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?...042AA6brL2
Thank you!

I can't help you as much as you helped me but here are some ideas I've tried before to earn money:
-Make a youtube channel or blog and get money from advertisements.
-Make a website and get money from advertisements.
-(This one takes some time to learn but is easier than most people think.) Create a app for android and/or iphone. In google put in (for android): app inventor 2, and (for iphone) put in AppMakr. The guy who made Flappy Bird makes $50'000 a day on advertisements. You probably won't make as much, but it's easier than you think to make an app where you can make some money from.
-Since you're at a boarding school you probably make some close relationships with people. Ask your friends to give you some money...doesn't have to be a lot. Every dollar helps.
-Also, a slow way to making money, but if you're desperate, you can take surveys online for money.
-Start a business on ebay...do you like to knit, have old movies or belongings you don't want...just sell it.
-One thing I've done before that works well, but requires some transit traveling, is studies. Find a local university and look at the psychology, neuroscience, and/or health departments as they usually offer all the public studies. Find one that suits you and shoot them and email and if they have room, they'll accept you. In most studies you'll have to go to the university yourself. I did a study where I and my mom had to fill out a 5 min questionnaire each day for 7 days and we each got $115 for a total of $230. Studies are a great way to earn money!
-Since you're Christian (I am too!), you could ask for some support from your local parish. They will probably at least give you $50. I've done this before and they are very kind when it comes to helping....especially when it comes to helping people help people, lol.

Those are all the ideas I got.

I really would like to communicate with you. I could use some of your help. If you wish to talk to me, could you please e-mail me at ellashuttleworth@live.com
