How to get my kingsnake to not strike at me?
My new kingsnake won't stop striking at me when I try to touch him. Every time I touch him he tenses up, turns around, and strikes at me. But what's weird is my friend came over and picked him up and he didn't have a problem.
Once I pick him up and get him in my hand he's fine and just sits there. Just trying to pick him up sucks cuz I keep getting bit. Plz help my parents say if he doesn't stop striking he's going to the pet store :c Also I feed him in a different tank then he stays in Ads |

King snakes are aggressive as babies but will calm down. The trick to this is to handle them at least 2-3 times a week. The more you handle it the less aggressive they will become. If you do not handle them they will stay aggressive. They are very territorial that is what you are running into. I have had this issue with mine and now she is calm. When you approach to pick him up. Go from the back and grab the mid section. If you try to grab them bringing your hand toward their head this will scare them leading them to strike. Hope this helps. Check out my facebook page at Corn Snake Facts and Question. I have years of experience with corn, milk, and king snakes. There is a lot of information to pick up on this page. You can also post pics of your snake and questions you may have. Hope to see you on this page!
