How can I get more likes on my Facebook page?

I've been working hard to promote myself and my art but it's a bit challenging compared to those other pages that seem to have thousands of likes.I try to promote it on my personal facebook but it doesn't seem to be doing much, can anyone give me any tips on how I can promote myself on other website, or on facebook itself?
