Why do girls always want complements?

Hi
I'm a girl too, I'm 14. But I've noticed a lot of things. First:

Girls wear tons of makeup because they think they're "ugly" I'm not quite sure if they seriously think they're ugly or if they're just fishing for complements. I have tons of makeup! But I don't wear it. The only time I'll wear face makeup is when I have pimples and stuff. I tend to wear just mascara, eye shadow, and lip gloss. So i'm not so sure why they feel the need to wear so much makeup!

Another thing is that on social media, mostly instagram and facebook, is that they post tons of "selfies" which isn't bad, it's just that they put "I'm so ugly, I have no friends, no one loved me" and tons more. I actually envy girls who are confident enough with themselves to post that many pictures of themselves in one day while I'm trying to work up the courage to post one!

Maybe it's just me noticing these things. Maybe I'm just jealous that they're so popular! But I just hate the fact that they go "fishing for complements" I'm not trying to hate either, but it just bothers me for some reason! Thanks in advance!
Thanks and it probably is true that they are insecure. I am pretty insecure because i don't have a lot of friends lol! But yeah I do wear more makeup occasionally, mostly when I'm going out too dinner or too a special event.
Yeah I believe that insecure girls aren't used to getting complements, so they don't expect them.

But popular girls that are used to getting them, just expect them.

Everyone loves compliments but some people NEED them to feel good about themselves never be one of those people who rely on the opinions of others to validate your own self worth.

It bothers me too. Girls that KNOW they're pretty purposefully do it so people will tell them how amazing they are. I think they wear so much makeup (myself included) because it makes them confident, and it gives them that confidence to post so many selfies. Maybe if you want to be more confident and popular, use more makeup. Its not a good message, but unfortunately that's how the world works. Attractive people gets perks over less attractive ones. I used to be insecure with myself, but I started wearing more makeup and people actually noticed me. It might not have been the right way to make people notice, but it really helped my confidence. If you DO decide to wear more makeup, dont go fishing for compliments tho lol it makes you seem needy and insecure. Confidence is much sexier than being insecure IMO. im sure your a much better looking and better person overall than those girls. Dont feel bad about yourself you are beautiful good luck

A lot of girls, I believe like you are just fishing for compliments, especially posting a lot of pictures with those titles :/ But some girls do say those things because they want someone to compliment them as they have no confidence, they wanna join in with others by posting pictures but don't have the confidence to think they are pretty in them :/ its sad really, but im like you, just a nice tint of makeup

Well I'm a guy so I'm not sure my point is true
But i notice that every girl fish for complements from her boyfriend i guess because she tries hard to impress him and want to know if its working.
So its the same for some popular girls they work hard to look peefect so they want some evidence that it really works.
