I just tried to send a non friend a message, and Facebook wants to charge me, or?
send it to their OTHER message box for free, I could do that. Do we HAVE another box? Where is it?

First of all go to your messages. There is an option other messages. Find it woul be somewhere there.

Facebook never ask charges for message, it always ask charges for advertisement your product and company(if you are handling). You can send message to anyone, for this just open profile of that person and click on message button. Now a box will open and you can type your message and can send to anyone.
