It might be because of a school theme or something. When my school holds a rally to get in the spirit we sometimes change out fb pics to the theme like last week we had a superhero themed rally so a whole bunch of ppl organized to change out pics as a class.

everybody is hanging their profile pics because now their parents and even grand parents are joining facebook and teens are ditching so they communicate so no one sees them literally.

because of modern pop culture has made super heroes more popular then in 2005 and before. so all the hipsters think it is just swagilushious to say they work at super hero or change their pic to one. and it always happened it is just bubbling up more so.
