I hate my generation!?
I hate it with a passion. The music is horrible, not to mention boring (with extremely rare exceptions). We've stooped so low, we've been reduced to goat remixes and dramatic increases in pedophiles.

The literature in books nowadays are cliche because plots are being abused so much, it should be a crime. People, especially teens and people up to their late 20s, and sometimes 30s, are obsessed with alcohol, drugs, and sex so much that if you're not doing it, you're basically shunned.

But the absolute worst is the technology. Everybody squeezes as much time as they can (even sacrificing sleep) to stupid social media like Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and now, Vine is coming along around the corner (let's face it, Facebook's dead, hardly anyone talks about it anymore), for what? What is that going to do for them? What is so important about a like that people beg you for them? It's a complete waste of time!

A couple of weeks ago, I was at my friend's Quinceañera (they couldn't afford a ballroom, so they threw a party at their house), and we were bored so we sat in a small circle (6 of us, including me) in the middle of the hallway, and I was thinking, "This is so cool! We're going to have a girl talk, we're going to gossip and giggle and have so much fun just talking and being social."

My mom asked me to put her camera in my purse, so I left to do that and I come back (mind you, that took all of one minute), and EVERY SINGLE GIRL were on their phones. Even my 10-year-old cousin who was using my Dad's cell. Not looking at anything but the screens of their phones, probably on that goddamn social media or texting or whatever life-wasting anti-social activity they call "entertaining", instead of talking. I had an itch to yank that phones out of their hands, but if I did they would've been like, "No, stop it! Give it back!" And if I refused, the adults would be like, "C'mon, mijita, just give their phones back." I just stood up and left to hang out with the moms, because at least they're social.

It's ridiculous. And, later in the party, I was talking to two girls, an 11 and 9 year old, and they we're talking about how they had iPhone 5s and I said "All my phone can to is make calls, and text, but barely 'cause most of the texts I'm supposed to get never show up." The 11 year old then asked if I had a computer, and I said yeah, but I'm on it for like half an hour at most everyday, unless I'm putting music in my MP3 player (this outdated device that is exclusively for music, the iPod of the early 2000s).

And then she actually had the nerve to say, "You must get really bored at your house. What do you do for fun?" I was about to impulsively say, "Did you really just ask me that, *****?" But she was 11, so instead I said, "Are you serious? You want to know what I do? I draw, I read-" then she interjected, "You like to READ?" (she said it with such disgust in her voice). And I responded, "Yeah, I do! You probably don't like it 'cause you've been reading all the wrong books. I also write, and I play with my little sister, I swim in my pool. I watch my movies every now and then, but it's not what I do EVERY DAY. I probably have more fun than you do."

The only good thing about nowadays, I'd say are the medical advances, race and gender equality (most of the time), and easy access to information. But that's it.

I wish I was born in 1899 instead of 1999, when you'd go outside in the afternoon/evening because it was too hot, and you knew your neighbors, and were friends with them. When people were social, I mean ACTUALLY social, with you know, face to face communication. When you'd listen to that real music on record instead of radio. When guys try to win girls' heart by taking the time to write letters and being classy and romantic and getting to know them, not texting them "heyyy, wanna go owt?" an hour after getting their number. In the 20s when a party was food and dancin and gossiping, not everyone on their phones on social media, no eye contact and music in the background.

Is there anyone out there like me?

See, what your doing is glorifying the past. Your thinking the grass is greener on the other side when in all reality things have always been shitty, just in different ways. Are there a lot of things wrong with are generation? yes. Has any young generation been perfect or even much better than ours? no. Trust me, 1899 was a harder period in time than our own. You may be thinking that you want something harder and not all this technology but they were wishing for it to be easier and couldent even dream of the technology we have. And what if you were born in 1899 and you husband or boyfriend was recruited to fight in world war two? What if he died? Be happy you will not experience a world war. "hopefully"

The problem is that humans just don't know how to be happy, they are always thinking something else will make them happy. Anyway, happiness in a mind frame. You can be happy in any situation.

girl, we are one in the same. I'm 23 and it just seems like everyone my age (with the ratre exception) are complete idiots. my befriend is 32 and he sometimes tries to lump me in with the actions of othets my age. I dont like the music, fashion, slang, mannerisms, interests, or anything else that the average person my age likes. I dont eben have a facebook or twitter account.
and unfortunately things are just getting worse. I dont think im better than anyone else, but I know I have more self respect than most. and thats the problem, no self respect, and no respect in any other aspect. for others, for other things, for nothing.
I have a son and it terrifies me that he will be in middle school one day. who knowswhat the world would be like then, considering its seen "normal" for an 11year old to have a phone and be dating, and having sex.
its sad, but I know where your coming from. ive always felt that I was ment to be born in the 60's.
you just have an old soul. be thankful for it.

i totally agree with you on the whole internet/cellphone/communication stuff, but you have to remember that the past is always, always remembered to be better than it actually was. It is the best parts of culture that will carry on to future generations. Like music - it is ONLY the greatest songs of the past that we still listen today. There was loads of terrible music back then but no one listens to it anymore because it was so bad. So now, we think only good music came from the past.
