There's a little box in the corner of facebook and when one of your friends does something (like like a photo) it comes up in there and tells everybody, so if one of your friends likes your picture, their friends will see it in that box.

well it depends. if his friends type his name quite often it will come up into the updates. But it all depends on the settings and how important the person who liked your pic is for the other ones. Hope i helped
