How to temporarily deactivate your Facebook account?

I want to deactivate my Facebook account but I don't want to permanently delete it? How do I do it step by step?

Go to your account settings and set it the hidden. The profile isn't deleted but just cannot be seen by others until you unhide it.

From your main page, go up to the top left corner and select account and account settings. Then scroll down and there should be an option there to deactivate your account.

to deactivate* your account (not permanent, your facebook will disappear to everyone after deactivation, but whenever you choose to log back in, it will reappear and everything will go back to normal): account > account settings > deactivate. OR http://www.facebook.com/deactivate.php
