Does it look better if you have more or less Facebook 'friends'?
Hi! i'm 18

I was having a, err, 'debate' with someone saying is it better to have more facebook friends... like 400, or less... like 80.

I was saying less because it looks like you're not constantly on facebook, it looks like you only add the people you know, you're not trying to make yourself look very popular with about 1000 'friends', and in a way, you're safer.

Yes the person I was 'debating' (ha) with, said it's better to have more because it makes you look 'less sad' and like you know a lot of people.

Two questions...

1) What do you think?
2) How many facebook friends do you have?

People with 500 friends may seem popular, but you can assume that most of the people on their friends list are just acquaintances or random people.

150.

Who cares about what looks better. People actually debate over this? I hide how many I have because it shouldn't matter to others. Personally though, I have about 142 at the moment, but that's a lot for me. Whenever it gets to a number like that, I start deleting people I don't really talk to. It's pointless to have all of these people on Facebook when you don't even talk to them. I should probably go delete a bunch of people now. It's fun too.

1) I don't think it really matters, as long as the person KNOWS THE PEOPLE he has as friends..
2) 400+ Tongue

1.) i don't think it matters all that much, as long as you don't add everyone, or everyone who you have mutual friends with...then it gets creepy.

2.) i have 455. but i'm in high school so i come into contact with a lot of people at my school that has around 1900-2000 students

Well I only have 96 friends on facebook but I know every single one of them really well. Some of my close friends on facebook have thousands of friends but have even admitted that they only know about 100 of these people and most of the others are just random people that they don't even know. It's best to just have friends on facebook that you know well and wil talk to.

I agree with you, I think it is better to have less Smile
I have 122 but I'm not actually friends with all of those. A lot of them are people from my school that I don't talk to but added me anyway and I accepted because I didn't want to appear rude. But I can't delete them because they are in my classes at school so it would be very awkward if they found out. I think I'll just delete them when I leave school, it is my final year now anyway Smile
But yeah I think it really looks pathetic to have loads of facebook friends; no one speaks to 400 people on a regular basis. It could be hard enough to keep up with 80!! I think adding people for "numbers" is pathetic and like you say, it makes the person seem like they are on facebook all the time, which implies they have no life.
There is no point having such a high number of people because I consider it more pathetic to be adding people that you don't know or don't talk to!
