IPhone 2g Facebook app always messes up?

When I click on the Facebook app, it'll show my messages/notifications but the Newsfeed/profile will always say 'Sorry, something went wrong.' with a sad face, and it will also have a 'Try again' button to reload it, but every time I click it, it says the same thing
I have recently updated it, and tried logging in and logging out. When I go on Safari, Facebook works, but i'd rather the app for push notifications etc.
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how to make it work, I've bought it as a temporary phone, and I haven't got a sim in it, it's currently connected to my Wi-fi, but I know it's not because of that because my Aunt had hers just working on Wi-fi
