If I were you I would do it on the phone or better in real life, but also get to know her a bit better first. There must be nothing creepier than having a guy you barely know message you and say they have feelings for you.
If you do still insist upon using facebook rather than the phone or Skype then the simple words "I like you and I want to get to know you better. Would you like to go on a date with me?" seem to work adequately.

Telling Someone That you Like Them on Facebook is Not a Good idea I Would Recommend Getting Her Phone Number or Meet Her in Person and Tell Her On the Phone or In Person That you Like Her
