should i get Facebook?
iv never used any form of social network , this site is the closet i get to it and i only do this on a truly boring day. everyone has been nagging me for months to join it , i don't want to really but wonder if there's any benefits to joining it? my girlfriend joined a year ago and has become such a boring person and i cant take her out anywhere as shes always on facebook via her phone. would just like to know the pros and cons. i do have friends and family who live miles away but still see every once in a little while.

I would say that if you have many people who want you to join then it is a very good way to keep in contact with them but if there are only a few I don't see much point. From personal experience I can say that it needs a lot of work, especially when starting up and it also makes the user feel they constantly need to check it for updates. I would recommend using Twitter, this is a 24/7 constant feed of tweets from your friends and family. A much more relax way to socialise online.

-It doesn't have as many bugs as Myspace, so it runs faster, and your messages are less likely to get lost like on Myspace
-It is one of the best ways to organize and share photos
-It is constantly changing and adding new features
-It allows you to show your "status", so people are kept up to date with what you are doing.
-You can show events that you are attending
-It's easier to find your real friends on Facebook, because the search engine is better
-Facebook isn't cluttered with annoying graphics and advertisements

CONS

-People tend to use social networking sites as a replacement for real human interaction. The more you talk to someone on Facebook, the less likely you are to hang out with them in real life.
-It's harder to find new friends on Facebook. The search is meant to only find people who you are already friends with in real life. You can't do an advanced search for people outside of your networks.
-There are information fields on Facebook that could potentially make it easier for people to stalk you if you aren't careful. These fields include your email, phone number, and address. You can hide these from certain users or not enter them at all, but many people probably enter that info without thinking, making available to anyone on their friends list.

Umm then i prefer you to use facebook but dont get addicted to it and since ur fam and friends are out of town you can keep in touch with them via facebook.

The benefits are that you get keep friends in touch, chat with people for free, advertise without no fear of getting reported, talk with friends with the new video chat system thats getting updated next week on facebook and more.

If you're only thinking of joining because others are nagging you - don't bother. Peer pressure sucks Tongue I think it's useless. I can email people. That's all you really need. Facebook apps and facebook like to collect your data and never delete it. If your friends use an app, but you don't - then your information is still collected just because you're part of your friends list. That's pretty messed up right there. Games aren't unique to facebook, just as photo sharing, updates and event invitations etc. It just makes money from the adverts and collecting personal data for other advertisers.
