Why are kids trying to seem more "mature" than they're supposed to be?

I'm seriously getting sick of this. They are marketing slutty Halloween costumes for 8-year-olds. This is disgusting. It's bad enough that pretty much every teenage girl is a rebellious slut who disrespects her parents and goes out clubbing whenever she wants, but now it's starting to happen at an earlier age. 8-year-olds with Facebook, with boyfriends, it's a sickening thought...

You can't blame it all on Miley Cyrus. Of course, she was also a big influence but she wasn't the only one.

This new Society is making it look like they should do that, girls are getting pregnant at a lot younger ages as well, They watch things like teen mom and think yeah that would be fun to have a kid at a young age. Your right though kids are trying to act older then what they really are because society tells them its ok. Thats the only reason!

Kids haven't changed the world has changed and kids have adapted to the changes. they seem more mature because they are more mature then kids were even 10 years ago.

Good Question. I think it's just because of time. If you look back to... How about the 50s, you see girls only wearing knee length skirts and shirts that cover their collarbone. As time moves forwards, skirts evolve into pants which moves to shorts and then short skirts and lower tops and tank tops..... I think you understand.

This along with media like you said (Miley Cyrus) influences kids. I can remember always wanting to be in with what was happening now. As for today, "now" is not that respectable in some parts.

However, there are those handful of young people still clinging to what they were taught and not dressing or acting irresponsibly. Not all teenagers dress like sluts of go clubbing whenever and not all children buy those innappropriate costumes.

Slutty =/= mature.

I'm not a big fan of my gender or age group either, don't worry.

All teenagers, for as long as anyone remembers, have rebelled against their parents. That's not going to change. But a good parent will keep it under control by having a good relationship with their child, that's strong enough to give the kid enough sense to not listen to marketing or peer pressure.

Or, if parenting is too hard, maybe the kid will get lucky and just have a brain. Wink

Well you seem really angry. Your talking about 8YEAR OLDS hello, where are their parents?
I mean its true that the world is changing and childhood lasts only so much but it also depends on the way people are brought up! My sister is 14 and goes out with her friends to movies only if my mum drops her off and picks her up. But she ain't allowed over friends houses and defenitly not partying.
You teach a child whats right and wrong and they learn from it. Parents have control of the child until they are 16 so they can make sure that a child has no access to facebook, mobile phones, youtube etc.
But they can never be perfect because they do also have outside influences at school but you can ask teachers about your childs behaviour.
Adults are the boss!!!!!

I'm pretty sure kids have ALWAYS wanted to act like grown adults, no matter what generation or century they are from. And what you said about teenage girls isn't completely true, I know a lot of them who are not like that, more than who are.
How the hell could you blame Miley Cyrus? She's on the disney channel with a cutse little kids show.

What you're saying about teenagers is a stereotype caused by maybe 30% of teenagers. However it does seem like kids about 8-13 are being pushed into adolescence way too early. With facebook and all its like you can't be a kid anymore. I'm only 17 and when I was 8 I went outside and played with all the other kids on my block and when it snowed we played in the snow and when it rained we stood under my tree. And I know when my brother got a nintendo gamecube he stayed in more and more. Now my 10 year old cousin sits on facebook on his iPod (which I don't even have) and plays some stupid alien game. And people want to complain about the childhood obesity rate. Today's parents of young kids need to make them go outside and exercise and do things to have actual interactions with other kids their age instead of spoiling them with cell phones and iPods and facebook. How can their brains develop if they don't learn how to write, talk to others and read books.
