Should I direct message a band that is following me on Twitter?

So this band that I really like follows a little less than half of their followers back, they are followig 9000 people at present, including me. (no they're not just starting out, they've been in the business for about six or seven years). anyway, I'd love to send them a DM but I wouldn't want them to unfollow me because of it, should I take the chance and do it?
Well I know they probably won't reply but I know they'll read it. The thing with replies is there are so many. I just don't want them to think I'm taking advantage of their following me or anything

i think you should, it never hurts, and if you didn't you could possibly regret never doing it!

Sure. Bands need to be nice to fans or they wont make any money.
