Not joining because im not from your locality, this character is unknown to me.

You can't make a status update for groups.....You need to create a Page for it....Making a page is easy. Go to this link: http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php

When you make a page, you can update statuses.....your group has a little number of member right now, before it grows highly make a Page for it.
