Facebook's new profile question!!!?

Ive noticed that with Facebook's new profile format, the friends shown on the side are not random like before. There are a lot of reoccuring friends, so what dictates what friends are shown? Is it whomever looks at my page gets to be shown? Or is it something else?

I noticed this also, but I'm not sure. It seems like its a combination of who looks at your page and whose page you looked at last

It's not that random. The chat on the side consists of people that you mostly talk to on the chat and your recent people you have talked to using the chat.

According to Facebook:

“Friends who you publicly interact with the most appear first on your profile. Examples of public interactions include Wall posts, comments and mutually attended events — Facebook will never show friends based on whose profiles you choose to view or who you interact with over messages and chat.”
