When should I visit a Buddhist temple?
I've been studying Buddhism for years, but I've never actually visited a temple before. I've found one near me, though I have no idea which day (and time) would be best to visit.

Looks beautiful. Just go any time you're free, and ask them, there are resident monks there, so they'll be someone to tell you about their services, schedules, etc. They are usually very friendly and welcoming. Enjoy! ☼

A Lau temple would be similar to a Thai temple. We are part of a Thai temple. You can visit there at any time of the day or early evening. Thai and Lao temples usually have actual services on Sundays, but the doors are open all the time. They usually lock up when the monks go to sleep, so it would be polite not to go after 9:00 p.m. or before 7:00 a.m. Also, different traditions have different routines for the resident monks. At our temple, the monks have chanting and meditation between 7 - 8 a.m. and 7 - 8 p.m., and they eat lunch between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Otherwise, there should be someone there to talk to you and answer any questions you may have. Also, they can answer questions and discuss Buddhism, but they are never supposed to try to change you.

The greatest temple is above your own shoulders, the self , the path only teaches you how to enter it.
"The kingdom of heaven is within you" "If your eyes are single , your body will be full of light" "I am (self) is the way, nobody comes ...." "Knock & it shall be opened to you" Learn the path (meditation) and the inner temple & its deities will be opened to you. |
