Facebook profile picture as .GIF file type?
My friend took a photo of me and uploaded it to his flickr...I wanted to use it as my facebook profile picture except when I upload it it doesn't show up.
It could be because it was taken with a 50mm lens and for some reason is a .GIF file type. I tried converting it but that didn't help.

Thoughts?

All the digital cameras out there shoot and save images as JPEG, RAW and in some cases TIFF. None that I know of save as GIF. That is something done using a photo program.

The size lens has nothing to do which whether you can see an image or not. If that were true, photography would be in chaos.

As with any file with very little data, whether a 256 colour GIF or 400 x 265 pixel file, you cannot expect to enlarge them and get an quality. you will have to get the original file from your friend (as a JPEG) and then re-size it for Facebook. Remember to save the re-sized image as a different name so you do not overwrite the original.

Flickr converts photos to the GIF format to try to prevent further use by anyone else. It CAN be converted easily though, or at least *I* can easily convert it, to a JPEG that you can use on Facebook.

If you will email me with a link to the EXACT photo you need, I will convert it and provide you a link to where the photo will be.
