i keep getting "your message could not be sent" on Twitter?

i keep getting "your message could not be sent" on Twitter?
every time i try to direct message someone this notification shows up, and yes they are following me back. ive searched around twitter support and other forums but i havent found a solution yet. anyone know how to fix? thanks!

you might be on DM limit. that's the only thing that'd make sense. try again tomorrow and see how that works out (:
