how does facebook choose the friends displayed on your profile's sidebar?

heres a story to go with my question.
well. i like this guy! and you know the people on the side of your facebook profile? like your friends? well APPARENTLY its the people that you talk to the most and stuff, i think its true because the guy that i like is on my sidebar because I talk to him a lot.... and stalk him a lot (lol) and Im on his sidebar for because he talks to me a lot and ya we talk. now theres this other girl, she CLEARLY likes him too (i know she does...) and shes on his sidebar too, and hes on her sidebar. LIKE WTF, and this guy is the nicest guy in the whole wide world i dont go for players! but seriously, this girll....im gettin mad. anyways, do the people on your facebook wall sidebar mean anything?

It's at least partly random, but do take note that Facebook has not made the algorithm used public.

Who is shown on your profile sidebar is based on interaction through wall posts, comments and mutually attended events. Facebook specifically states it will NOT select friends to show based on who you stalk, message or chat with.
