My notifications are not showing up on Facebook?

My notifications won't show up. Like I click the earth symbol thing but all my notifications aren't there. Like for example someone liked a picture i was tagged in but it didn't tell me in my notifications? Does anyone know how i can somehow change the settings or something? Do I just have to click the little mail button or is that just to not get emails on my email?
