Facebook likes, shares, comments on website or FB page important for SEO?
I'm trying to build traffic to my site. Facebook likes, shares and comments are listed as the top ranking factors for SEO. Does this mean those on your website or Facebook page? If on your website, then do likes, shares & comments on your Facebook page not hold any importance other that site awareness?
@Crystal I know they're important, that wasn't my question. My question was are they of ranking importance on your Facebook page or do they need to be on your website?
Please don't answer ppl unless you fully understand my question..

Yes likes, shares and comments are all important for you website's SEO. December of 2012, Danny Sullivan gave his insight on the possible effect of social signals in the organic ranking of your website. Couple of weeks after that, Matt Cutts has confirmed that this true. The more likes you have the more signal it sends to both search engine bots and humans that you website can be trusted compared to those who have less votes.

Imagine this, if more "real people" (this means not fake followers and friends which are offered for sale by other websites) will have to share what product or service you offer, this means more people will learn and know what you've got.

The web is a very big place to meet all the possible clients which will give you lead. Social media is one bridge to know them. If you are to leverage these social votes, you will sure to rise above tough competition.

Social media does not directly impact search engine rankings. However when you do have content that is being tweeted, shared etc. it increases your site exposure which then allows you to possibly gain some natural links to your site which will improve your overall search engine rankings. However again social media alone doesn't do anything in terms of having a direct impact on ranking, but rather it has an indirect impact.

Facebook likes, comments and shares create great awareness about your website. If your website have genuine Facebook likes and shares, they have there own birth and impact your web presence. Its good on behalf of SEO as well.

But it will not directly impact your website ranking but provide boost to visits to your website and lots of people share your website with others and provide you natural backlinks that impact the website ranking.

If your site dynamic one regarding content updating, then make that page Facebook enable, so that each and every information can easily be shared with a click on Facebook. It's the part that is related to your web site. Do one more thing, create a Facebook page for your business and promote your site on the basis of social media optimization. Create quality backlinks for your site and share latest update with all social media. It will help you make a huge traffic on your site.
