Random facebook notifications ?

Recently my facebook started to notify me whenever someone random on my friends list adds a new photo or status. Why is this?

I think they are your close friends, When you add one of your friends to your Close Friends list, you’ll automatically receive notifications about what that friend posts on Facebook. You can adjust the settings for these notifications:
From your news feed, click Friends in the left column. You might have to click More to see the Friends section.
Click Close Friends to view the list.
Click the Notifications dropdown in the top-right corner.
Choose whether you want to turn off these extra notifications.

If you're getting notifications when people post and they aren't on your Close Friends list,
or you can also decide to stop seeing a certain type of notification right when you see it:
Click the globe icon
Hover your mouse over the notification you want to stop seeing and click the X that appears
Click Turn off
