Weird notifications on Facebook. Someone help?

So, for some reason lately I've been getting stupid notifications on facebook. Like one of my friends will update their status and I get a notification because of it. It's getting really annoying. Is anyone else having the same problem? I really want it to stop notifying me every time someone updates a status or posts a picture.
And no, I don't have anyone on my close friends thing. I just checked.

Some people choose to let everyone be notified each time they post, not sure if it's an app or what, but yeah it has a little star next to the notification. Not sure how to get rid of it myself ha.

You most likely have that person on your close friends list. If you want to remove them and stop getting those notifications:
1.Go to your home page.
2. In the left column, under friends, click on Close Friends, it's the one with a star.
3. You can choose to change your notifications so that when your friends post it won't notify you, or you can click Manage list --> Edit List --> and put your cursor over who you'd like to remove and click on the X on the top right corner of their profile picture.
4. You can also, just change what notification pop out: Click Manage list --> Choose Update types --> Uncheck what you'd not like to be notified about
