Anyone else think Facebook, Myspace, Twitter ect...are a joke?
I set up an account on all three about a year ago just to see what all the hype was about. Sadly I found it very difficult to remain on any of them more than 10 minutes...I found it dull, boring, and pretty useless. There were a few ladies that made mention of my "good looks", kinda flattering I must say, but this type of flattery coming from a total stranger that i cannot and have not seen? Wierd!

In exchange for gathering 400 mllion people all to one place on the internet, facebook gets MEGA bucks in advertising revenue. What I found Facebook, Myspace and Twitter to be, are a bunch of advertising sights promising connections and friendships exploiting peoples fears of REAL HUMAN INTERACTION!!! Fear of getting out in the "REAL WORLD" and meeting people face to face. People can't communicate in real life and face to face anymore. Many women on Facebook, you'd require a total make over in order for me to approach you in real life. So is that the reason for the doctored up and digitally altered picure on Facebook or Myspace? Is the best you got to offer of yourself? Ashamed of how you look at this very moment?...forget about the profile pic from 5 years ago! Or maybe you are really that hard up and needy for attention? Ever been dumped? Maybe I dumbed you....I certainly don't want you finding me again years later on Facebook after I finally got rid of your sorry ass! (Once your out my life...I want you out for good!) GET MY POINT?

Which brings me to the privacy factor...where is it? Does everyone have to know when you take a crap? What new shoes you purchased at the mall? Why tweet.."I'm watching TV and eating popcorn"...who cares!!!?? This day in age people are far more fit to bring you problems and drama, than to bring you a connection or close friendship. We all have problems, most people on Facebook are looking for a way out of theirs...misery loves company. So let's put 400 million miserable people on Facebook, let's make them click away and search for so called friends, and let's call it a social life...lol.

When asked do I have Facebook, Twitter, or Myspace I can proudly answer NO!....I quickly grew tired of the meaningless friend requests, shameless flirting from peopel I would never be interested in, some asking me to do things I'd never do...or pressuring me to hang out with them because they have no life...or because they think my PIC looks good. It's all pretty sad...but I guess it's a sign of the times.

It's sad because our time is precious, we don't even realize that loosing our time with irrelevant (internet based things that are virtual, not actual) things will lead us in the end to...nothing. If I said that I hate social networking websites then it's because they do not help us to improve ourselves, to evolve as humans to make us smarter than we think we are. I really think that such websites should receive less attention and should not be treated as an "important" resource by humans and by those who manage the search engines. So stop wasting your time and here is what should you do, in my opinion...GET SOME CONFIDENCE, GET OUT AND GET A LIFE....MEET PEOPLE THE OLD FASHIONED WAY! Anyone agree? Don't Care if you do or not...my mind is made up, i think all three a lame, but feel free to speak your mind....
Using Myspace for business it not all bad, atleast that "could" serve you a financial purpose or gain for your life!

I agree...
I have one as well.
I will say, using it as a basic e-mail, and networking with friends (I play music) is great...
Using it to promote your face and complain about how you feel to friends is not cool.

Facebook will die in a year or two, they just want to go public and keep changing shit left and right to do just that. I still use Myspace today but thats just because im a cheap bastard who cant afford his own website....but it works for my type of business.

Sure, it deprives us of normal lifes, but that's the way the world is today. People live an alternative life online when they lack a real one. I have accounts at all three places mentioned above but I rarely use them at all.

However, Facebook & MySpace provide a service I couldn't live without, the ability to keep in touch with old friends. People I haven't seen or talked to in years, and can't find elsewhere, I can find on social communities. Seeing as Facebook & MySpace are by far the largest and have gathered together almost the whole world that's the place to go. The act of socialization is much better done in real life though.

just because you have facebook, myspace and twitter, doesn't mean you don't have a life. its people like you, who are wasting their life, whinging about them that need to get a reality check.

I can't convince you it's worthwhile, you're obviously against it for a multitude of reasons. One thing I will say though, is that you only get out of it what you're willing to put into it. You can't just make a profile and sit there expecting to be entertained. I personally use Facebook as a one-stop method of keeping in touch with people. This is especially helpful for overseas friends, or people who I can't catch up with as often as I'd like to (between work and university). Is that wrong? I don't use it as a replacement for real interaction, but if the options are either: never talk to them (because I don't have the time to physically see or even talk to them on the phone, and neither do they!) or connect via Facebook, I know which one I'll be choosing...

Aside from that, who are you to dictate that "simple fun" is not a valid "purpose" for using social networking sites? I find it relaxing after a long day to just comment on my friends' statuses, share funny stories and tell people what's happening in my life. (And no, the whole world will not be informed of when you take a crap - unless you choose to tell them that.) This isn't to say that there aren't people out there who are morons, because there are many of them and they all seem to use Facebook. But jeez, don't lump everyone in with that terrible bunch. Personally, I only add people I actually know. Maybe if you'd done the same, you wouldn't have had random strangers asking you out. As I said, you only get out of it what you put into it. Make an effort and it's rewarding.

Lastly, if you value your time so greatly, maybe you should go and spend it doing something you love, rather than complaining about something you hate. I'm not having a dig at you, it's fair that you would have a strong opinion on something, but when your main argument is "It's a waste of time", maybe you should take a look at yourself, Mr Ten Page Long 'Yahoo Answers' Question =P

Social networking sites are only good for socializing. Every Facebook game except for bejeweled blitz are boring. I was actually just trying to deactivate my account. At first it was fun it became addictive to look for friend requests Which really defies the purpose.
