i think that devout catholics are less likely to have the viewpoint decided by the media. for example catholics are less likely to believe the nonsense peddled by the likes of rupert murdoch who only want an end to social welfare and to turn everybody into selfish, uncaring and materialistic excuses for humans. where i live in britain people believe what papers like the sun and daily mail tell them and they think their beliefs are justified even though they may well stink, if these people were catholics they would surely know that they could not justify what is written by those papers and that the main thing they want is a dismantling of the welfare state, something that the catholic church is clearly against. it has been proven that catholics are more likely to vote for compassionate and left wing parties and condemn judgemental right wing parties which are the preserve of evangelical protestants and libertarians.

No. Ignoring the media does not inform people. Even ignoring the gutter press you mention is not actually informative; However the stupid run across all sections and I know many Christians who read the Sun 'For the sport'. Far more, who pretend they're Christians while being clearly not, read the Mail.

Catholic education is generally very good. If it weren't for the fact that Catholic churches were directly involved in the largest modern genocide at this very moment, I honestly wouldn't mind them.

But they are. And 1 million more Africans die every year. If you guys get your church to stop demonising condoms, maybe you'll be able to start earning your respect back on the world stage.

No, Catholicism is stupid. This may strike you as odd, but I'm actually an anarcho-capitalist and not a progressive in any shape or form. If people want to be big dumb retards and join the statists then that's their business.

Do you have any statistics to support this claim?

Look at the efforts of Catholics in Africa to spread AIDS because of their belief that using "birth control" is wrong.

Atheists: why dont you agree that catholicism can actually make people better informed

- They are better informed about fantasies, but not reality.

i think that devout catholics are less likely to have the viewpoint decided by the media.

- That is where thinking comes in. You "believe" and accept whatever fantasy the church tosses to you, we "think" and understand the difference between fantasy and reality.

for example catholics are less likely to believe the nonsense peddled by the likes of rupert murdoch

- People who think can do that also, we do not need to be told what to think.

where i live in britain people believe what papers like the sun and daily mail tell them

- Stupid people exist everywhere and you cannot cure stupid. Churches recuit those people and it keeps them out of trouble UNTIL they decide they have to recuit EVERYONE, then we have a problem.

if these people were catholics they would surely know that they could not justify what is written by those papers

- If they could think they could do the same thing. the difference is the WE think for ourselves, you have the church think for you.
