Are Facebook advertisements reliable?

I mean the ones that appear on the right hand side of the screen on facebook advertising things like free cosmetic samples. Are they reliable?

Some are just scams to get you to try something then free ends up costing a lot of your time to get them to leave you alone after the fact.

Don't get me wrong, there are many legitimate advertisers on Facebook and they have done a pretty good job keeping the scams out. Just make sure if you want something for "free" you are ready to handle the sales pitches that will come afterwords.
