For example a story where characters are always talking about what so and so said on facebook or in a IM
or they actually use social media i.e."Carrol logged into facebook. She causally typed away at her keyboard some standard Facebook status."

Weeeeell.
I can think of "The Social Network", a film made about the creation of Facebook.
There is also a series by Charlie Brooker called "Black Mirror" which is about how technology can totally mess with humans (in a negative way).
Lots of shows have references to social media, if only to take the audience into the story, like Clara in Doctor Who making a joke about Twitter.
Not sure if this is what you meant, though.
