Should I DM this girl?

Okay so there's this girl that I've kinda had a crush on for a while. We've never actually met before but she goes to my school and I've seen her in the hallway a couple of times, but never find myself in a situation where I can talk to her face to face if that makes any sense. So she followed me on Instagram and twitter and the whole deal and liked a couple of my pictures and all that, but I was wondering if it would be the best idea to DM her. See it's been a long time since I've even TRIED to make something happen with a girl I've thought was attractive, and I'm really apprehensive about sending her a message out of the blue. And if I should, where exactly should I take the conversation once I start to get to know her? I have no problems talking to girls, but I'm always very cautious about what I say to them which leads to me never really making a move. I hope this all makes sense. Anyway if anybody has any advice it'd be much appreciated

Don't dm her, do the thing on twitter where you make a post and like you do the @ thingy and then be liek @(insert her username here) hi you're cool we should be friends
or something like that so she doesn't think you're trying to get with her right off the bat. if she liked your photos on instagram (if they were selfies) then she probably thinks you're cute
