Why is my Instagram connected to Facebook?

I have facebook and I have instagram but I tried linking them once but then I unlinked it and removed the app on facebook but this morning I got a notification on instagram saying "You friend _____ has joined as _____" I know that person because she is a friend on facebook but I was confused because I didn't like it, I checked on the "Share" settings on instagram and it isn't linked so why did that happen? How do I completely unlink my instagram from facebook? please help I don't want my mates to know i have instagram. Thanks.

When you post a photo to instagram it gives you the option to check Facebook and twitter for sharing. If you don't click those none of your pics will go to Facebook but if its still showing up that you have an instagram on Facebook then I would probably make a new instagram and don't link it to Facebook period. And why are you hiding your instagram from your friends anyways isn't that the whole point of having it to share photos with friends/family?
