For an assignment I need to know how social media can effect the olympics, people in the olympics, etc.

We have seen one effect already, as the hashtag #SochiFAIL is trending on Twitter relating to tweets that are critical of the Russian Federation in general. Back in 2012, there was also a #NBCFail hashtag when it became clear that NBC were using results in their promos of Olympic coverage that had yet to be shown in the United States.
