so I'm friends with my moms friends daughter. Not best friends or anything, just hang out occasionally since they live in a different town. I went out with her family the other day and her brother came along who's a year older than me. I basically talked to him the whole time and we have a lot in common. Afterwards I heard him asking his mom if I was going to his sisters sweet sixteen. Should I friend him on Facebook or would that be weird?

No, why would it be weird? You guys have met and talked and seemed to get along pretty well, so you could definitely friend request him without it being weird or awkward or anything.
