Does it bother anyone else that people on facebook take advantage of people who are religious?

I always see these stupid posts that my friends share; The posts typically contain the following: Like and share for god or ignore for satan. They might write a fake story about someone whose parents died. P.S. I'm not an athiest for you overly religious or people who feel like preaching to me -_-

Facebook is stupid and that's just one of the reasons why it's stupid.

I don't believe that it is Facebook, itself, tat tales advantage of people at least in the respect that you describe. For the most part, there is freedom of expression on Facebook, and people are free to post what they want regardless of whether or not others find it entertaining or interesting. Exceptions, of course, include threatening people, cyber bullying, and so on.

Anyway, I see a lot of fake stories and pictures enticing people to share things that are not religious in nature. I don't have any solid evidence or research to back this up; however, a lot of the Facebook rallying cries that I have seen seem to come from people sharing conservative perspectives, but not always (e.g., the equal sign Facebook photos back when people were proclaiming their support for same sex marriage).

I recall from growing up in the 80s that there were from time to time small groups calling for various boycotts such as a boycott of Procter & Gamble for their alleged satanic logo. It seems that these days the same type of thing has made its way to Internet and social media such as Facebook.

In short, I think that a lot of these shocking stories and such spread because they appeal to things that stimulate emotional responses. Politics and religious faith are things that are deeply personal to people, so it should come as no surprise that a lot of the exploits will target them. Something else which may trigger responses from people include things with children (e.g., all of the like & share stories about children being mistreated in some way).

On the whole, aside of the motives of the people who originate them, I think that a lot of the people who are simply sharing something that seems to appeal to them actually mean well even if they lack internet savvy. In other instances, people's accounts get hijacked from time to time by malicious people and web sites.
