Facebook friend count won't update?

I added a few new friends but Facebook still displays the old number!

relax. there are a few reasons for this. facebook could being having a small glitch. if that's the case, it will eventually update. wait a couple of hours. Another reason could be that at the exact same time you added friends, the same amount of people unfriended you. since the chances of this happening are kinda slim, it's probably just a glitch. As long as you can still view the new friends you added, there is no problem.
