Studying Advertising & Marketing?

What major should one choose in college if that person wanted to work in advertising and marketing? And how many years does it take to graduate?
I don't know anything about the whole thing btw.

It depends on what the college of your choice offers. Oftentimes advertisng and marketing majors are in the business school, so check there. I would also suggest taking a few psychology and sociology courses as having an understand of human behavior is very important in the adveritising industry. If you can minor in business administration, I highly suggest this as well. Hopefully your school offers a 101 course on advertising/marketing but for now, it would be great if you read up on the industry on your own time. Read up on the trade publication sites: Advertising Age, MediaWeek, AdWeek, BrandWeek; follow the industry on Facebook, Twitter, etc. and just be very knowledgable about current trends.
