How much does a first apartment cost?
I grew up in an abusive family and have been fightinf depression all my adolescent years. The people who I rent with are always asking me for money and get mad when I say no because they are too lazy to look for jobs and live off unemployment.

They sit here all day long watching tv and using their money to buy liquor and lottery tickets when I don't even have a tv for myself and am always working hard and careful with how I spend my money and tell me that I cannot keep my food in the refrigerator anymore.

Please someone help, I need a friend now. I may have to try to find some money to rent an apartment for myself soon.

Could someone with maybe with some experience tell me how much a nice looking 1-Bedroom Apartment , in a safe neighborhood with no drugs or violent crime, costs altogether with electricity, water, heat and rent? Thank You So Much Smile
Thank You Everyone for your fast responces & kind advice Smile

A first apartment doesn't necessarily cost any more or less than a second or third or tenth apartment; there are no price breaks automatically for first timers. Apartments can cost anywhere from $50 USD to $5,000 USD a month. Easily. I say $50 USD because I've seen tiny apartment rooms for rent in very large cities in Asia for that much a month.

Sorry, but I'm outdated. Back when I first started, I could rent a one room efficiency for under 200.00 a month, all bills paid. That's one large living area with couches that folded into beds, and a separate (small) kitchen and bathroom. But it met my needs as a young single male who spent most of his money on hot rod cars.

Pray about all these things. You don't say if you are a Christian or not. You need to know the Lord and learn how to pray and walk by faith. It is good you work and that you do good things, and God sees all of that. He wants to help you and bless you and be your friend. Do you have a Bible? Read the book of John, and Romans 3:23; 6:23, II Cor. 5:10; 7:10, Revelation 3:20, II Cor. 5:17, 21, John 3:1-21; and 1:12-13. You need to get into a Full Gospel church. Find one that is friendly and caring and helpful.

As far as costs for apartments: they ask for first and last months rent, so that's a lot. You need to save some money up. The guys in that apartment are just taking advantage of you. Pray for a job that pays more so that you can save money. May God bless you and keep you! How much for the apartment depends on what area you are in exactly. For instance the SF bay area where I live is a high rental area. I happen to have a good deal now because I'm a senior citizen who worked for 19 years and disabled too.

It depends on the location. In 2000 I was able to rent a two bedroom apartment for $425 per month, which included water. The deposit was $850. It was hard to find it that low then, and prices have only gone up since. You can contact the social services office department of emergency housing to find out what they consider to be the fair market value. In New Jersey in 2005, the fair market value of a single bedroom apartment was $701 per month.
