Why is video calling on Facebook free while Skype costs money?
From what I understand the video calling service on Facebook is also administered by Skype. Now both national and international calls via Facebook are absolutely free of cost. While Skype will typicaly cost 15-30 USD. This is too much for me since I am from India. 15 USD would mean around 1000 Rupees which is a very high cost considering my entire month's budget for calling and 3G is $2! What I wanted to know was why is it on Skype that we must pay while the same service is available for free on Facebook.

Facebook pays for you. Skype and facebook have an alliance. Facebook gets the money from the ads you see while you open your profile.

Facebook video call is a bit buggy and fails often and loads slow as compared to skype too.
