Where is the best place to put my Google Adsense ads? Can I put them on Facebook, Myspace, etc? Where will my ads be the most effective?

You are not allowed to put your ads on other websites and stuff, you can only put them on your own website. The easiest and cheapest option is to go to blogger.com, create an account, and create a blog. You can easily add your adds there.
In the long run, it is better though to buy a domainname + hosting, and install blogsoftware on it.

they are most effective on a website where people are actually looking for the product, putting them on non targeted sites such as facebook or myspace will only lead to google penalizing your account with their smart sales as the click through to sale will be very low - if your going to advertise on sites such as these use advertisers where you only get paid if the visitor purchases something.

The best place will be in YOUR blog or website.

You can't put the code in sites you mentioned for the following reasons:

- you do not own nor control Myspace or Facebook, and Adsense allows you to put the codes only on sites you own and control
- Adsense will not work on those sites anyway because Adsense is Javascript and those sites do not allow Javascript -- so Adsense will not run
