facebook chat messed up?

the chat bar is simply not there, unless I specifically go to the "account settings page" in which the chat bar does appear, but if I attempt to go to other pages on facebook then the bar goes away.

this is only on my laptop, the chat bar is there like normal on my PC and for everyone else in my dorm.

why?

I Think some problem with your browser in laptop so i suggest you to install "Standalone Google Chrome" that have built-in adobe flash player, shockwave player etc that necessary for many sites.
If you still facing problem after installing chrome then go into help center of facebook and report bug into chat to facebook.
They will aware to your problem after reporting and your problem will solved in 1 day.
