What else can we do to protect our house against burglars?

We were on vacation but my father goes back in our house everyday to check and feed our dog.He doesn't sleep there,he always go back to us after checking our dog. One night,our house was break in our house.They didn't enter the doors or windows but through our roof! The first time a thief break in our house was 2 years ago and they entered through our door.After the incident last two years we changed our doorlocks and had our windows covered with grills. What else should we do to avoid this incident to happen again?

An alarm system would be a good start; leave porch lights on at night, tell neighbors you will be on vacation and report suspicious activity ; don't post anything on social media sites about being away.

An alarm system - obviously leaving your dog there to fend for himself isn't working.
