Here is a tip while starting twitter: Go in search tab and choose something you relate to, like a sport or movie or something, then reply to people who are into the same thing. by time you will get a respectful follower base.

remember twitter isn't about the number of followers, its about you expressing yourself and talking to people you wish you knew

I use this--> http://skylnk.co/FhJkIf its like the only free thing out there to get you followers w/o having to follow back. it works on a point system for multiple websites so you can go like peoples pages on Facebook or whatever and get points and then use those points to get twitter followers. that way your twitter isnt all cluttered with spam and your following count doesnt go up
