Why is Facebook asking me to send ID over email?

So I was locked out of my Facebook account, and it asked for government ID. I found that to be absolutely ridiculous, but I sent in a scan of my passport with the important information blocked out. I then get an email from them right away, asking that if I already sent in my ID to send it again over email.. I have a feeling that this could be some kind of scam, seeing as I had already sent it. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.
@ Kumel: No, I messed something up myself. I tried to copy and paste a message from a guy I didn't know to show my friend, and I'm assuming this guy probably sent the same lengthy message to multiple users and got in trouble for it. So when Facebook detected the exact same message, the blocked me. The very second I pressed paste.
@ Jake: I did upload it to the site, and the email even said for the subject "thanks for sending your id", and basically asked me to send it again.. Seems weird because it really seems to be from Facebook, but that's the whole point of scams, is that they look convincing.

That must be cause of some legal verification. May be some other people are trying to be You (Fake accounts)

Facebook does prompt some people for an ID.

However, they should not be requesting this via Email. There should be an upload form on the site itself.

Stop there ! facebook never never sent a email to users to ask her or his information ? i think you had been scam on by a stranger who can be a hacker watch out for that. there many bad strangers out there can get hold on facebook users names and etc. to steal more information about who you really are. . i am tellling you that facebook team never does that. if only if they will give you noticeful only on facebook mail box . so you never tried to copy or paste anything from unknown person or people that doesnt look familar to you . sometimes bad people can sent something like a strange message to users to tick them to do something that isnt real . facebook team doesnt block you if only case if you had made a big problem with other users like you did something wrong to them or said something very means stuffs about her or him looks or whatever then the person can sent report to the facebook team for abusing her or him yes they can ask to block you . but if you didnt do nothing wrong then those people being meanful to you. . so dont bother to be friends with those kind of people .because they just want to make more trouble.
